TM strikes all age groups from young children to the elderly.  The most common age rangers, however, are 10-19 and 30-39.

TM is an inflammatory attack on one's spinal cord.  As a result, it is characterized by neurologic dysfunction such as:

bullet

a change in sensation on both sides of the body

bullet

weakness in both legs (and sometimes arms) in a clearly defined area

bullet

urinary or bowel dysfunction

bullet

pain

 

bullet

The cause of about 60 percent of TM cases is unknown.
